Trident Tactics

Small fleets, careful turns

Trident Tactics is the game studio name of TRIDENT INFRASTRUCTURE LIMITED, a company from Hull. We design turn-based naval tactics games for Android, played on compact hex-grid seas.

Each battle in our designs is about position and timing, with the wind as a constant third player, rather than numbers. A fleet of four ships handled well should beat a fleet of eight handled carelessly.

Matches are planned to last around ten minutes, and every turn can be saved and resumed. We avoid random damage rolls; outcomes follow from visible rules, so a defeat can always be traced back to a decision. Tides change from map to map, as do sandbanks and harbour walls, giving familiar ships new problems to solve. A short tutorial voyage introduces one rule at a time before the first real battle, and a replay of every engagement can be watched afterwards.

Wind

Sailing ships move further with the wind behind them. Reading the wind is half the battle.

Range

Each ship type has a clear firing arc shown on the board before you commit.

Terrain

Shallows, reefs and harbour walls give the defender real advantages.

Orders

Both sides plan in secret, then turns resolve together, so bluffing and anticipation matter as much as firepower.

Campaigns

Short campaigns link several battles along a coastline. Damage carries over between battles, so a careful captain who brings every ship home starts the next engagement with an advantage.

Trident Tactics welcomes rules questions, map ideas and privacy requests by letter. Write to the harbour.
